KINDERGARTEN INTENDED OUTCOMES
Kindergarten is the perfect time to discover, explore, and gain competence in many educational goals (benchmarks) as well as the life skills of caring, effort, sense of humor, responsibility, cooperation, patience and friendship. Since children learn best hands-on, I will plan for developmentally appropriate, active learning. Through differentiated instruction, children of different abilities will be able to progress from their starting point no matter where they are to begin with. We will work to become a classroom community and help each other achieve our goals by cooperating and pooling our talents but being accountable for and being able to show our own individual learning. Some children start kindergarten already possessing the complex skill of reading, others are just beginning and may not know a letter from a number yet. I will give you the curriculum benchmarks (goals) for all four quarters attached to this packet at back-to-school night, and at the beginning of every quarter, I will re-send you benchmarks for each quarter at the beginning of that quarter. I will do everything to offer each child multiple opportunities to master each quarter's goals as we go through the year. As you know, children's brains are growing and connections are being made on a daily basis---some children will need even more exposures to master a given goal. Our job as parents and educators is to persevere in presenting the curriculum goals in many different ways and over and over until the child 'gets' it and can show they know the skill with automaticity, which means they must know it without hesitation---instantly and accurately and be willing to show their knowledge. We have to not give up, and keep reviewing learned skills and presenting new approaches to goals.
I LOVE TO HAVE VOLUNTEERS!
After the first month of school, I would love parents to come and help in the classroom. I will be able to send home a volunteer sheet with times needed as soon as I get our time assignments for gym, library, and other activities we do outside our classroom. Caring parents in the classroom give the children another source of attention, encouragement, and help. When I am teaching a small group, I appreciate a parent answering students' questions and helping the other tables stay on task
