p.m. kindergarten session
Regular school day Monday to Thursday 12:20 p.m. to 3:20 p.m.
Fridays/planning days/short days/last day of week* 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
*Please check the monthly calendar I send home, and make a note of short days for yourself (or let your helper/daycare know). Usually, planning days are Fridays, but they take place the last day of the week, so sometimes, this short day will fall on other days of the week. Don't miss short days because they are short! We make up for the short time by skipping recess so these days allow enough time for activities, reviews, and valuable new learning. There's also a calendar on the Crestview website.
At the End of the Day
ATTENDANCE
Send your child on time and regularly; that lays a solid consistent foundation for the expected skills, behavior and knowledge. If your child is sick, of course, please keep him home. If he comes to school, he should be able to go out to recess. Two times/week per class, I have recess duty, and cannot leave a child unattended, so those times if your child needs to stay indoors, I will have your child sit in another classroom. If your child has a play-date with another child and you will be dropping them both off to school, please make sure it is on time. A child who does not ride the bus cannot go home on the bus with a bus child when they plan to play together later, so plan to pick them both up.
VACATION DURING SCHOOL DAYS
If you take a trip during school days, please send me an email with your expected dates of absence. I will not be sending a vacation work packet because so much of kindergarten is hands-on and experiential. If there is a paper product involved, I will put that in your child's cubby for your review, but you don't have to send it back to me. I do ask for a vacation report if your child misses school to go on a trip: one page per day (any paper you have at home is fine), have your child draw a picture of what they did, and one sentence such as "I saw my grandma today" or "I picked up some shells on the beach". Add a cover page, "My Trip to _____" by your child's name, so it can be a book. When your child returns, he/she can orally tell us what the report says, and we can all learn about where you went.
