Dear Parents, May 20, 2019
Schedule for Kindergarten this week: Regular days Mon. 5/20 & Tues. 5/21.
Wednesday 5/22 is the last day for kindergarten students but it is a regular
length day; kindergarten students (a.m. and p.m.) come 8:35-11:40. This
is "Field Day", usually full of outdoor fun (if it rains, the fun moves
indoors)
No school for kindergarten on Thursday (1st-6th grades attend but we don't)
Friday, no school for students, it's a teacher work day; all students come
for registration the morning of Thursday, August 1st.
Last Week: We finished up testing and are almost done with our animals unit: we know about mammals, birds, insects, reptiles and amphibians, and are now looking at animals in a different way, by where they are found in groupings such as farm animals, zoo animals, ocean animals, pet animals, and extinct animals, where we will see many classes of animals together in these groupings. We loved hearing about blue whales from Sam; thank you, family, for providing the support animal reports require. We celebrated Temperance's birthday with a crowning, song, and a delicious treat, happy birthday, Tempe! We practiced going up to the lunchroom and had milk and a little snack. On Thursday, we had pet day, and saw drawings and photos of pets in our classroom including Nolan's Betta, as well as real pets outdoors. We saw Johan's dog, Reagan's dog, Sebastian's fish, Tempe's dog, Chloe's cat, Hannah's dog, Taytem's dog, Eva's bunnies, James' dog, Jane's bunny, Fisher's bunny, and Sam's fish. Thank you, parents, for bringing pets to visit, we loved it! Friday, our students put on a great performance, we all loved it; if you couldn't see it in real life, I'll send you the link to it when I know.
This Short Week: Today we'll celebrate kindergarten, tomorrow we bring home our portfolios of our work in kindergarten, Wednesday we will have our field day, indoors if the weather is rainy. Tomorrow I'll send information on how to continue phonics practice with Lexia through the summer. Since I am retiring, my work e-mail will stop working at some point; I printed my alternate email address on your hard copy.
-----Thank you for all you do, Mrs. Hashimoto
Dear Parents, May 13, 2019
Schedule this week: Regular days Mon. 5/13 to Thurs. 5/16; special hours on
Friday, 5/17, a.m. and p.m. students all come 8:40 to 10:40 a.m. because
we have our special program for parents/grandparents this day (the note
for that is rolled up inside your child's blue Class of 2031 t-shirt, along
with the Granite District Superintendent's note)
Attached: Any notes from the office, flyers from other sources, a blue note

Last Week: (which was 2 weeks ago!) We finished up our learning of mammals and took our book of mammals home, a.m. kindergarten had an opportunity to watch the second grade's performance of "E-I-E-I-Oops!" (yes, we loved it!). We practiced on Lexia, had our last library for the year, and we had gym. The students all received their April Reading Calendar reward (the book Giraffes Can't Dance) and we had fun showing up in jammies with our beloved stuffed animals one day! We wrote in our journals, practiced singing to get ready for our program for you, and worked on learning and reviewing activities for math, language arts, and music. We got to hear animal reports from Trac (red-eared sliders which are turtles/ terrapins), Jane (pandas), Mia (humpback whales), Declan (elephants), Hannah (owls), and Samantha (cheetahs). Thanks, parents, for working with your students on this research activity!
This Week: We'll do some writing activities, learn a bit about animals of different species brought together in different spaces such as farms, zoos, oceans, and our own homes as our pets. The note regarding special activities for the rest of the year (blue paper) will also tell you more details of the other things we will do this week.
Thank you for all you do, Mrs. Hashimoto
